Men’s Day with HEM Alliance: Building Brotherhood Through Connection

This past Saturday I had the chance to host a Men’s Day event with HEM Alliance, and it was everything I hoped it would be. For five hours the space was filled with sports, laughter, honest conversations, and the smell of something good on the grill. Seeing men come together for connection reminded me exactly why I do this work.

HEM Alliance is a community-based organization focused on healing, empowerment, and mentorship. Their mission is to create spaces where men can connect, grow, and support one another mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Through workshops, volunteer opportunities, and gatherings like this one, HEM Alliance continues to build strong foundations of brotherhood and community support.

Hosting this event brought me so much joy because it’s not just about playing ball or sharing food. It’s about creating a safe environment where men can show up as they are. Young men in our community are often seen as misunderstood and many don’t ask for help. I’ve seen that firsthand. My late brother Q was one of those men who carried a lot quietly. Because of him, and because of the brothers I still have, I feel a deep responsibility to protect and support those I can.

This Men’s Day was a step toward that mission, a day of genuine connection, healing, and hope. There will be more events like this and more chances to get involved. If you’d like to join the next one or volunteer with HEM Alliance, send me a message. Together we can keep building spaces where men feel seen, supported, and strong.
